Sarsippius Truly hard to choose a favorite.
This is the soundtrack to my favorite game of all time. Even all these years later.
Between Overdrive and Robert of Army. Really close, but Overdrive edges Robert out by just a bit. Favorite track: Overdrive (NGII).
Deferent Golgi
Deferent Golgi thumbnail
Deferent Golgi More ominous and claustrophobic than the soundtrack to the original NES Ninja Gaiden. Less readily likable, but also more enigmatic and haunting. Ninja Gaiden II is clearly the star, and Ryūichi Nitta is given the chance to demonstrate his potency as a composer at last. Favorite track: Unlimited Moment (NGII).
theaterofsalvation
theaterofsalvation thumbnail
theaterofsalvation Ninja Gaiden II is one of my favorite games for the Nintendo. It easily shares space with other classics like Mega Man 2 and the music's a big part of that. I can't help but feel the music (especially the cut scene pieces) are what film score music would sound like done on the NES. I can't throw money at you fast enough for physical copies so I can ditch the gamerips I've listened to for years.

Also, you want me pick my favorite track? As in one? I don't think that's possible. Favorite track: Chaosium Sword (NGII).

Ninja Gaiden, of the most iconic and beloved 2D action game series ever created, was first released in the arcades in 1988, while making its console debut on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) later in the same year. At the time of the console release, Ninja Gaiden was renowned not only for its deep storytelling beautifully visualized by TECMO’s unique “cinema scenes,” but also through its legendary chiptune soundtrack, whose unique rock-’n’-roll sound and drum beat instantly became a formative musical experience for players who were only just getting into video games.

Ninja Gaiden: The Definitive Soundtrack is divided into volumes. The follow-up, Ninja Gaiden Vol. 2, features the music of both Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos and Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom. These legendary soundtracks have been digitally restored under the supervision of Ryuichi Nitta and Kaori Nakabai, two of the original composers. The booklet includes a comprehensive roundtable discussion among several members of the original development team, including the director, producers, artist and composers; an essay by game historian Ray Barnholt; and original archival artworks.
